New iPhone App - The Hunt

How many times have you jumped on Pinterest or WeHeartIt, seen a beautiful manicure or outfit, tried to click through the image to find its source, only to be greeted by a less than helpful direct link to the image, rather than the site it originated from?

For me, this is an all too common problem. It drives me nuts when things online have mysterious origins, especially when it's something I want to buy! UGH!

Luckily, there's a solution, and I truly do love it!

Presenting, The Hunt. Also available online, this iPhone app harnesses the power of fashion and beauty experts to answer the question, "Where can I buy that?!"

Here's how it works.

There are two ways to get involved using The Hunt app - start a hunt, or add a find.

Start a Hunt

If you have something you're looking to find and buy, you would likely start a "hunt" by choosing this icon on the app:

So let's say I was interested in finding the polishes used for this gradient. I would start a hunt, and then upload the image of the gradient to the app. Once uploaded, you're given several options to add to your hunt.

You should name your hunt, and enter a description for what you're looking for. For example, let's say I didn't care about the colors, but just wanted to know how to get the gradient look. I might put something in the description like "I'd love to know how she got the colors to fade together so well!"

You can also tag your hunt so it appears when users are browsing tags, and you'll be able to choose a hunt type and budget. A hunt type helps users know what it is you're looking for. The options include:
  • "This Exactly" - lets users know you want that look, regardless of money
  • "Similar to This" - lets users know you are flexible in the hunt
  • "This Look for Less" - lets users know you have a tight budget, and aren't willing to splurge to get the look
  • "What Goes With This" - lets users know you want their advice to match an outfit or style with the look you posted
When you've entered all your details, you can post your hunt and wait for others to help you solve it!

If you see a hunt you like, you can follow it and be informed when someone solves it!

Find a Hunt

So what if you just want to be an expert and solve some hunts? You can do that too! To start, browse the hunts by tags or just by scrolling within the app. Below, I've used the tag "#nails" to try and find some hunts to solve.

For example, in the pic above, you can see that someone's hunting for Serum No. 5's glow in the dark polish. You and I know where to find that, no problem, but they might have no idea. That's where you can help!

Here I've found someone that's hunting for a tutorial to achieve this look:

Luckily, I can help! I created a tribal tutorial for a very similar design here. So, I'm going to solve this hunt for them!

If you scroll down to the bottom of a hunt, you will see the option to Add a Find. You can do this to hunts that have already been found as well, in case you have different advice that may be helpful.

The app will ask you to enter a URL or search for the find. I entered my blog's URL, and navigated to the Tutorial page.

Then I scrolled down to find the tutorial that gets the look the user is going for.

The Hunt app will browse the site you entered for an image to upload, and you can pick the best match:

Then, you can enter details for the user, including tags, descriptions, and even prices!

Since I know the user wanted to get the look, the comments I added include the names and companies of the colors I think would match her hunt. When I'm all set, I can save the find and it will notify the hunter!

If someone likes the find I've uploaded, they can Gem it, which is basically a bookmark within the app to reference later.

I love the concept of this app, and I've already found it quite useful. What I love is that you can establish yourself as an expert, and provide the right information to the people who really want it.

You can download The Hunt for your iPhone for free in the app store!
